Fat Fighting Foods

This may seem contradictory, but there are certain foods that can actually help promote fat loss.  Please don't take this to mean that there is "magic" food that automatically burns fat.  There isn't.  What this means is that the right foods eaten in the right portion, along with regular exercise, can lead to fat loss.
Foods that are high in protein are some of the best options when trying to lose fat.  Protein requires more energy for the body to process, so even during digestion calories are still being burned.  This doesn't mean eat a buffet every meal.  Protein is necessary for building muscle, which in turn increases metabolism.  Examples include lean cuts of chicken (no skin), pork, beef, fish, and certain beans.
High-fiber foods take longer to break down and therefore make us feel fuller longer.  This reduces the need to eat large portions, which lowers calorie intake.  Fiber also aids in digestion and moves food through the digestive tract faster, which means fewer calories are absorbed.  Examples include whole grain breads, oatmeal, fresh vegetables and various berries (i.e. strawberries, blueberries, etc.).
Citrus fruits such as lemons, grapefruit and oranges contain a significant amount of vitamin C, and it has been shown through research that matintaing adeqate levels of vitamain C can aid in fat loss.  Vitamin C is required for the production of molecules used in metabloizing fatty tissue. Without sufficient vitamin C, your body is unable to use stored fat, leading to increased levels of fat.
Low-fat dairy products such as greek yogurt and some cheeses are rich in calcium and vitamin D, which help preserve and build muscle mass.  This is essential in maintaining a high metabolism.
Introduce combinations of these foods into your meal plan.  One of the best ways to stick with a certain meal plan is to eat a variety of foods.  This keeps you from getting bored.  Combine this with exercise, and you have a winning recipe for fat loss!
