Sleep Apnea and Paleo Diet

Using Diet to Treat Sleep Disorder

In the initial article on sleep apnea, I told you about my friend Dave who complained about morning headaches.Thank God he went to see the doctor on time before this comes to a head, things could have been worse.
In that article I mention treating sleep apnea using branched chained amino acids. That is eating foods rich in this kind of amino acids.
But here, my focus will be on the old time paleo diet.
What is Paleo diet?

Paleo diet has been with us since time immemorial. It is the age long food pattern of the cave man.

Though we in this computer age may see those foods as too natural, yet we never know that this is the right type of food that made those cave men lived a longer and healthier life than we do now.
Paleo diet consists mainly of meats, fruits and vegetables.
However, nutritionist tells us that this kind of diet may differ form person to person. They say it is better to eat more of lean meat rather than red meat that is high in fat.But they say care should be taken because this could lead to carbohydrate deficiency.
As you should know by now that sleep apnea is a sleep disorder. It is periodic stoppage of breathing or shallow breathing while you sleep.
There are two category of this sleep disorder;
Obstructive and Central Sleep Apnea
Obstructive is cause by disorder in the throat muscles.
Central sleep apnea is a neurological disorder in which the brain don’t receive the right signal due to inadequate breathing while you sleep.
However, this is complex, it is the combination of both the obstructive and central sleep apnea.
It is advisable to eat healthy  foods that is rich in organic foods.By organic i mean foods rich in fruits, whole grains and vegetables.
It has been observed by The National Heart,Lung and Blood Institute that people who are overweight are at a high risk of obstructive sleep apnea.
Although eating healthy whole foods like i mentioned may not be the cure for this condition, but it will sure minimize the symptoms.
In all, ensure you see your doctor if you are having this sleep disorder.Don’t self manage it.
