HOLIDAY SURVIVAL TIPS for eating

It's that time of year! So here are some tips to keep you happy and healthy as you celebrate with friends and family.

Just a reminder. If you are going to a gathering...try to eat a little snack before hand that is high in protein. You will be less likely to munch and less hungry.

1) Avoid a sugar roller coaster; when you eat sugar, you crave more sugar, and you may feel out of control
2) Treat yourself to a small portion of one of your favorites (The object is not to be in total denial mode)
3) Eat a variety of foods
4) Don't deprive yourself; moderation is the key.
5) Ask if you can brig a favorite (low-calorie) dish to a holiday event
6) If you really think you can't live without some treat, promise yourself you'll come back to it in an hour. See if you want it as badly after that hour. Chances are you won't. But...if you still do, have a small piece.
7) Avoid keeping your real favorites around the house; it can be too tempting.
Stay active and try to exercise in some form this week.
9) Avoid finger foods and nibbling.
10) Distance yourself from the buffet or the goodies after serving yourself.
11) Add additional fruits and vegetables to your holiday recipes.
12) Use only egg whites in cooking when you can.
13) Try substituting applesauce for oil or margarine when baking.

BE POSITIVE; BE HAPPY. CELEBRATE WITHOUT THE FOCUS ON FOOD.
