Lose Weight Fast

It’s no secret that one of the most popular goals among people everywhere is to lose weight. Most are interested in achieving their goal weight as quickly as humanly possible, which prompts them to try fad diets, starvation diets, pricey weight loss supplements and anything else they come across. The problem with these methods is that they all have the same shortcomings. They work for a short while, but just as quickly as the weight falls off it comes roaring back; many times with a vengeance.

By starving the body (which many fad diets do) the metabolism slows and subsequently, energy levels plummet. Large amounts of muscle tissue are metabolized and fat tissues are stored away safely as a defense mechanism by the body.

This is what can lead to a “skinny-fat” look, where you may be within your goal weight but your body composition is awry – too much body-fat and not enough muscle.

So the question becomes “Is there really a safe and effective way to lose weight fast?” The answer is yes, and the method is really quite simple. The three most important things you can do to achieve rapid weight loss are to reduce your consumption of carbohydrates, limit your consumption of sodium and all but eliminate your consumption of sugar.

Start by removing all grains; this means all breads and pastas, rice and any other grains. Make vegetables your main source of carbohydrates. Next, remove all sugar except from fruit, which means soda, fruit juices, energy drinks, candy, baked goods and any other food that contains sugar. Finally, excess sodium causes the body to retain water and makes it much harder to lose weight, so avoid it whenever possible.

Since carbohydrates are the body’s main sources of fuel, by consuming fewer than 50 grams of carbohydrates per day (with some variation depending on body mass) the body will begin to go into a state called ketosis in which it begins using its own fat stores for energy.

Forcing the body into ketosis is by far the fastest and most effective way to lose weight. Not only that, but almost all the weight you will lose is stored fat. Forget about weight loss supplements, their effectiveness is dwarfed by what ketosis can do. Read more about ketosis here.

To make up for the calories lost in carbohydrates you’ll want to increase your consumption of healthy fats, proteins and other muscle building foods. Contrary to popular belief, healthy fat is not your enemy, sugar is. In fact, Dr. Sally Fallon, president of the Weston A Price Foundation, wrote a very popular book on this subject titled Eat Fat, Lose Fat.

Remember, this isn’t a low calorie diet; it’s a reduced calorie, low carb, grain free, sugar free, low sodium diet.
