Natural Ways to Detox

There are numerous ways to go about removing toxins from your body. There are juice detoxes, fasting programs, raw food diets and more, but often the most effective way is to use the methods that exist as part of the body’s natural detoxing process. Here are some of those methods:

  • Exercise – Sweating is one of the body’s natural detoxification processes. The toxins are carried by the water in the body and released to the surface of the skin as sweat, leaving the body cleansed. Unless we have physical jobs, most of us do not sweat enough on a daily basis to release the amount of toxins we take in, causing toxins to settle and harm our health. Exercise also helps with circulation, which keeps toxins moving along so they can be more efficiently eliminated.
  • Drinking Purified Water – Many toxins are released through our urine, but the kidneys need water to filter toxins out of the blood and eliminate them through the urine. Be sure to drink 7 oz of purified water for every 10 pounds you weigh each day to assist this natural process.
  • Avoid Foods That Add Toxins to the Body – You are what you eat! That saying is more true than you might know. The foods we eat play a huge role in how we feel and perform mentally and physically, how we look and how we fight off and recover from illness and disease. Meats, dairy products, processed foods, artificial sweeteners and synthetic ingredients are the worst culprits of toxin intake from our food. Eat less of them and more whole foods, such as organic fruits and vegetables, whole grains, nuts, seeds, and healthy fats like olive oil and avocado.
  • Go Organic – Whenever you can, choose organic produce and products because they will contain much smaller amounts of unwanted toxic pesticides.
  • Eat Raw – The body also uses enzymes from our food to detoxify itself so that it can fight off disease. When we heat food over 118 degrees, most of those enzymes are destroyed. Raw fruits, vegetables, nuts and seeds are the best way to get the enzymes you need to naturally rid your body of toxins on a regular basis.
  • Improve Digestion – The digestive system has a huge role in detoxification, so the healthier your digestive system is, the more your body will be able to detox on its own. Don’t eat foods that put a strain on your digestive track, and it doesn’t hurt to supplement your digestion with probiotics, which can be purchased at pharmacies and health food stores.
  • Take a Bath – Bathing is one of the most relaxing and invigorating ways to remove toxins. Use the hottest water you can stand since heat draws out toxins, and add a generous amount of sea salt, Epsom salt and baking soda. Soak for 20-30 minutes and be sure to drink a lot of water while you are bathing to help your body move those toxins out and replenish your energy. Organic essential oils can also be added to the bath to reduce dry skin and to create an aromatherapy effect.
  • Eliminate Chemical Usage – Whenever possible, reduce or eliminate the amount of chemicals you use in your home and at work. By using soap, shampoo and laundry detergent that contain chemicals, you are breathing those toxic chemicals into your body through your skin, and when you use chemical cleaners, you are inhaling unwanted toxins. Buy natural, organic cleaners and personal care products whenever possible.
  • De-stress – Stress can impair any bodily function including detoxification. The mind needs to be detoxed as well as the body! You can do so by practicing meditation, mindfulness and breathing exercises.
  • De-clutter – Believe it or not, a cluttered environment can clutter the mind and body. Many people notice that when they get their living and working environments under control, they have more energy and clarity of thought.
