High dose zinc lozenges reduce cold symptoms by 3 days

Another study shows zinc reduces cold symptoms by 3 days. Wow.Randomized trials have shown that zinc acetate lozenges shorten the duration of common cold episodes.
This study showed a mean effect of 3 day reduction in common cold duration with zinc acetate lozenges. The benefit seems to be obtained at least in part from slowly dissolving the tablet in her mouth, which suggested that zinc might have local effects in the throat. In contrast the trials on low dose zinc lozenges (<75 colds.="" d="" dose="" duration="" effect="" high="" however="" mg="" no="" of="" on="" produce="" the="" zinc="">75 mg/d) zinc acetate show a 42% reduction in the duration of colds on average.Since acetate binds zinc ions less strongly than gluconate, zinc acetate has been proposed as the best form of zinc for lozenges.
It may even be worth employers supplying their employees with some of these lozenges or at least subsidize them if they want to get the best from their employees.
