"Low GI diet is very easy to follow diet plan, and one can
avoid serious health disorders like diabetes and heart health disorders
by following the same. Fast foods are rich in calories and it causes
obesity and other health related disorders like Cardio vascular
disorders, diabetes. Low GI Diet prevents Diabetes, Obesity and
Cardiovascular Disorders.
The Glycemic Index of foods-Carbohydrates is calculated on the basis of
rising blood sugar levels after eating the same. As per this, index
ranking is given to the foods on ascending scale – 1 to 100 by measuring
the rate of release of sugar in the blood stream after consumption, she
added.
Generally all carbohydrate foods are classified into three categories;
Foods with GI Glycemic Index 70 or above are classified into High
Glycemic Index Foods which raises blood sugar levels immediately upon
consumption. Foods with GI 55 to 70 are Intermediate Glycemic Index
foods which raises blood sugar levels on average rate. Foods with GI
below 55 are Low Glycemic Index foods which gradually raise the blood
sugar levels.
High GI Foods are digested quickly and absorbed that increases blood
glucose levels. As the blood sugar levels are fluctuated considerably,
it increases appetite, which leads to excess calorie intake of food
which in turn leads to weight gain and obesity. On the other hand foods
with low GI are slowly digested and gradually absorbed, and raises blood
sugar levels gradually. As these foods regulate insulin levels, it
controls hunger and eating habits. Low GI diet prevents excess calorie
intake, prevents unnecessary snacking, and helps to get relief from
cardiovascular disorders, obesity and diabetes. Moreover, Low GI Diet or
Foods provides sufficient energy to the body.
Let us discuss the Low GI Diet for weight loss; just try Oat meal or Oat
bran with milk or fruits for breakfast, which improves general health
and promotes weight loss as it is considered as Low GI diet, due to the
presence of proteins, carbohydrates and dietary fiber. Bread prepared
with multi-grain could be tried along with soups and it could be included
in Sandwiches, as it is Low GI food.
As the fish is low GI food it could be included along with other cereals
and vegetables during dinner. Please make sure that one meal during the
day should be with low GI Foods. Almonds, walnuts, cashews, peanuts are
low GI foods, which could be tried as snack items as it keeps glucose
levels steady in between meals and helps for weight loss. Try to include
fruits like cherries, plums, peaches, apples. Oranges, grapes,
strawberries, kiwis and vegetables like, tomatoes, potatoes, cabbage,
cauliflower, lettuce, carrots, onions, which are Low GI foods, and helps
for weight loss, prevents obesity, prevents diabetes, heart disorders
and improves overall general health."
